Campus events to celebrate the Year of the Tiger

Tuesday, February 1st, marks the Lunar New Year (also known as Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival) and the beginning of the Year of the Tiger. UW–Madison community members are invited to join in the celebration at the events listed below, hosted by UW student organizations and the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Student Center.


Feb. 5: MSA New Year Celebration

A banner wishing everyone a happy Chinese New Year.
Join members of the Malaysian Students Association (MSA) for a celebration to kick of the spring 2022 semester and wish everyone a prosperous New Year in a Heng, Ong, Huat style. Wear red; any traditional costumes are welcome too. Boba and Fishball skewers will be served.

Feb. 5: JSA Setsubun

Details in the post.The Japanese Student Association (JSA) invites you to celebrate Setsubun (節分) on February 5th at 312 S Park St. You will have the opportunity to make ehoumaki (恵方巻). There will also be karaoke, music and roasted soy beans just in case the oni (鬼) 👹 comes, we’ll be ready to throw at them to drive away the bad luck.

Feb. 6: VSA Têt Celebration

Details in the web post.All are welcome to come celebrate Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year hosted by the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA). We will gather to celebrate and honor family values, traditions, and reunite people with loved ones. There will be games and activities, including karaoke. Bring all of your friends, family, co-workers, classmates, and everyone around you for a joyful day. RSVP to receive priority for free food.

Feb. 12: CHASA Lunar New Year Banquet

Details in web post.All are invited and welcomed to the Chinese American Student Association (CHASA) annual Lunar New Year banquet. There will be performances by CHASA interns, Asian MIC, VSA Dance Group, VIVID, SEADO, KASPER, Sam Yang & Rachel Lee, and the CHASA E-Board, plus fun activities throughout the evening, a raffle, and most importantly, free food.
