I currently tutor PEOPLE students who attend Vel Phillips Memorial High School in their college readiness journeys with the goal of having them become badgers at UW-Madison. I hire and supervise tutors for afterschool programming in supporting my students to maintain strong grades and study habits that they will carry to higher education. I collaborate with the other PEOPLE precollege advisors in crafting various events between Madison and Milwaukee to educate and empower all of our students. We also collaborate and assist our PEOPLE college team in providing strong support for our PEOPLE College UW-Madison Scholars in completing their degrees through academic support, community building, and various events with the purpose of bolstering their abilities in networking, socializing, and self-maintenance to complete their college degrees successfully.
Before this position, I was, and am, a High School Math educator. I believe that Math is a subject that is not only necessary to understand the world around us, but accessible to everyone- no matter the skill level. I work everyday to counter the stigmas that students have engrained in themselves that “math is something I cannot do and I will never be a ‘math person’.” Through success in math, I can encourage students to seek more opportunities in challenging and fulfilling themselves through the pursuit and exploration of higher education.
As a young boy, my uncle echoed one thing into my existence, “Whatever the mind can Conceive and Believe, it can be Achieved.” I echo this proverb through my professional career and everyday walk of life alongside education.
