Conversation on Hate & Bias for Multicultural Graduate Students

A conversation on hate and bias for multicultural graduate students will be held Thursday, May 5,  from 5 pm to 7 pm (Refreshment Provided)
in Room 52 Bascom Hall.

Have you or someone you know experienced a hate or bias incident on campus? Do you feel supported in the wake of the series of hate and bias events taking place on Madison campus? Do you feel that the graduate students’ perspective has been missing from campus-wide climate surveys or discussions? Please come to join multicultural graduate students for a conversation on hate and bias on campus. The event will start with a presentation on Interrupting Bias Incidents by Ashley Smith, followed by Q&A.

Please RSVP to help us prepare for the event. If you are unable to join us, feel free to RSVP “No” to share your thoughts on this matter.

Ashley will discuss the process of reporting hate and bias incidents on campus, providing definitions of the hate crime v. bias incidents. Ashley will also give a synopsis of the reports submitted for this semester and last semester, and provide action steps and suggestions on how to support and or/intervene when these incidents happen.

Ashley Smith is a Graduate Assistant of the Hate and Bias Prevention Initiatives in the Division of Student Life. She is also an MGN ambassador who co-facilitated an MGN Coffee Hour discussion on Microaggressions.
