Hyewon Park, STEM Advisor for Center for Educational Opportunity at the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement (DDEEA), was recognized at this year’s Advising, Career Services & Learning Support Community Awards hosted by the Office of Academic & Career Success. Park received the Commitment to Social Justice Award for her exceptional contributions to the campus and its community.
“I strongly believe that this award recognizes and represents our unit’s collective efforts rather than an individual accolade,” said Park. “Our DDEEA unit has evolved into a robust center for first-generation scholars, offering a safe space, serving as a research hub, and promoting well-being and academic success on the UW-Madison campus.”
More than 200 UW–Madison professionals, in the advising, career services, and learning support communities, attended the ceremony last month to celebrate the end of the academic year.

What makes Hyewon extraordinary is that she doesn’t just fight to support students “on her roster.” She has brought students in from across campus and has established a reputation as a fierce supporter for UW–Madison.”
An educator for the past 15 years, Park has deep passion for serving under-represented, first-generation college and graduate students from all over the world. Park received her MFA from UW– Madison. She obtained her BS from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and her BA from the College of Art & Design at Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea.
The annual Advising, Career Services & Learning Support Community Award recognizes individuals who strive every day to make UW–Madison a more equitable, inclusive, and innovative place where all can succeed.
