World AIDS Day 2020: Join the December 1-7 Virtual Community Week

Join UW-Health for  World AIDS Week 2020. Each day, they’ll feature a different virtual activity, including:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 1st, all dayUW Health Instagram takeover with World AIDS Day and HIV related content. Videos from community members affected by HIV.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 2nd, 6 – 7 pm: Consent & Prevent – live event on Facebook focusing on empowering young people to take control of their sexual health. Brought to you in collaboration with Planned Parenthood WI (PPWI). Panelists will include the UW Health PrEP Navigator, PPWI education coordinator, and teen facilitators from the PATCH Program. Q & A from audience.
  • Thursday, Dec. 3rd, 12 – 1 pm: Webex webinar for healthcare professionals on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention and combatting disparities in accessing PrEP. Attendees will learn how to work with patients on taking a proactive approach to caring for themselves and others to prevent HIV. Presenters are Sol Aldrete, MD and Thomas Dilworth, PharmD. Brought to you by MATEC-WI.
  • Thursday, Dec. 3rd, 6 – 7:15 pm: Double Exposure: Surviving Two Pandemics – a virtual conversation on the dueling pandemics of HIV and COVID, similarities and differences to the early days of HIV epidemic, and coping strategies. Panelists will include James Sosman, MD and community members affected by HIV, with moderation by Ronnie Grace. Q & A from audience. Call-in option available.
  • Friday, Dec. 4th, 8 – 9 am: Dept. of Medicine Grand Rounds on Ending the HIV Epidemic, by Michael Mugavero, MD, University of Alabama Birmingham.
  • Monday, Dec. 7th, 10 – 11 am: Discussion in Spanish on HIV care and prevention, broadcast live on Nuestra Salud radio show (1480 AM, 94.5 FM) and the Latino Health Council’s Facebook page. Special guest Dr. Jorge Ramallo from 16th St. Community Health Center in Milwaukee. Call-in questions from the audience.

All virtual events are free and open to the public.
