Digital Recognition Program to Celebrate DDEEA 2020 Graduates

Class of 2020 graduates from programs in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement (DDEEA) will celebrate with a multimedia web program recognizing their degrees and accomplishments due to the COVID-19 closing of the campus.

The digital recognition page will be revealed on Friday, May 8, at 1 p.m. at diversity.wisc.edu. Everyone is invited to share the announcement, which will include the degrees and certificates earned by the more than 330 graduates from the division’s seven scholarship and service programs as well as videos of speeches graduates traditionally give at the live program.

“None of the joy of graduation – the cheers, tears and best wishes for a prosperous future – is lost through sharing differently this year, but it’s unfortunate to miss the shared hugs, group photos and personal touches that were provided in the past,” said Patrick J. Sims, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Diversity & Inclusion.

The unexpected social distancing with students who’ve been with their cohorts and program staff for years is particularly hard. It’s also important for families and supporters to share in the experience of reaching this pivotal long-term goal.

“For the past six years, the DDEEA has held a special graduation recognition event to acknowledge the exceptional commitment our graduates have made to successfully complete its scholarship and service programs,” Sims said.
