Inaugural Pride Month Celebration to be Held June 17 at Wisconsin State Capitol

LGBTQ members of the Wisconsin State Legislature are inviting the community to join them for the Inaugural Pride Month Celebration at the Wisconsin State Capitol today.

The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the King Street side of the Capitol. Program speakers will include Gov. Tony Evers, State Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa, State Rep. Mark Spreitzer, Elle Halo, and Sergio Dominguez Jr.

Pursuant to Executive Order #29 signed by Gov. Tony Evers, the Rainbow Pride flag has been raised over the Wisconsin State Capitol for the first time in state history.

“The people of Wisconsin have made critical steps toward LGBTQ equity, but we recognize that there is more work to do to ensure that every person in our state is treated with respect and experiences full equality in their lives,” according to the executive order.

As part of the Inaugural Pride Month Celebration, there will be a reception to follow the speeches in the North Hearing Room.

In the event of inclement weather, the program will take place in the Governor’s Conference Room.
