The campus community is finding many creative ways to celebrate Halloween – carving pumpkins on a crisp October night, wandering the oh-so-spooky hallways of Humanities to solve a murder mystery, hobnobbing with history’s greatest artists who look pretty good despite their centuries of age.
On Friday, the UW-Madison Chinese Language and Culture Club transformed the Humanities Building into a haunted house inspired by Chinese ghost stories.
A pumpkin-carving event at Union South drew a crowd on Thursday. Wisconsin Union Directorate Global Connections and WUD Art sponsored the event and provided warm beverages.
Also Thursday, Night of the Living Humanities, a benefit for the UW Odyssey Project, was held at the University Club. The project offers a free two-semester humanities class for 30 adult students facing economic barriers to college. The costumes were inspired by the writers, philosophers, artists, and other historical figures that students learn about in class.
Halloween fun is expected to carry on through the weekend, with a home football game and Freakfest on Saturday and the spooky holiday on Monday.
