Co-hosted by the Office of the Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer’s Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement in partnership with the National Diversity Council, this year’s panel will focus on the theme, “Secure Your Place at the Table.” Although there is a waiting list for the event, the discussion can be followed from 9 a.m. to noon on the social media hashtag: #MyTable.

This is the fourth year of the half-day seminar and networking luncheon designed to bring together a diverse mix of successful women in leadership roles. These leaders will discuss topics relevant to today’s issues to educate, inspire and encourage women to reflect on their own goals and status as they strive to advance within their organizations.

Representing UW-Madison on the symposium panel, Dean Shim was appointed to head the School of Human Ecology in July 2012. Shim was a University of Arizona faculty member for more than 20 years and has academic expertise in consumer decision-making, behavioral and consumer psychology, consumer financial behavior, and global retailing and management. She has been director of the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences and associate dean of strategic initiatives for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona. Shim holds a doctorate in human ecology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in human ecology from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.

In addition to Dean Soyeon Shim, other panelists will include Amy Squitieri, Group Head and Vice President at Mead & Hunt; Beth Bovis, Partner at A.T. Kearney; Katrina Watkins, VP, HR Business Partner, Human Resources at QBE North America; Suma Elwell, VP of Organizational Development & Strategic Planning at Wisconsin Reinsurance Corporation; and Wendy Horton, Vice President, Performance Excellence and Integrated Operations at UW Health American Center. The symposium moderator will be Anne Carter, Director of Corporate Recruitment and Diversity and Inclusion at Alliant Energy.

To address the theme of securing a place at the table, panelists will share their experiences on the following topics with a series of discussion questions:
