2013 Diversity Forum slated for Oct. 21-22

Dear Colleagues,

As we prepare to continue our diversity and Inclusive Excellence work in the coming academic year, I  am inviting you to attend the 2013 Diversity Forum, “Diversity and Educational Achievement: A Statewide Agenda,” on October 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day with keynote sessions in Union South’s Varsity Hall and workshops/breakouts in its various meeting rooms.

We are pleased to announce that this year’s forum is funded in part by a UW System grant, to address statewide issues of academic achievement in higher education for underrepresented groups. Setting precedent as a two-day conference for educators, students and community leaders across Wisconsin, the Diversity Forum will feature keynotes by national thought leaders as well as the opportunity for dialogue and discussion in breakouts and workshops.

Topics will range broadly from the precollege pipeline for underrepresented students and their increased participation in STEM fields, to the role of micro-aggressions and educational achievement and hip-hop pedagogy in the academy. We will also be discussing the US Supreme Court decision in the case of Fisher v. University of Texas-Austin and its implications for higher education. Confirmed speakers include Columbia University Professor Derald Wing Sue, UCLA Professor Silvia Hurtado, and Attorney Art Coleman of Educational Counsel LLC.

To join us in October, register today at:
