Why is UW surveying students?
UW–Madison is committed to creating a community where every person feels they are safe, valued, and able to succeed. The Student Campus Climate Survey serves that mission by helping us understand students’ experiences with and perceptions about campus climate and diversity, including how people of different backgrounds and identities experience life at UW. The university surveyed students in 2016 and 2021. The 2024 survey will provide us with critical information about what has changed in the last three years, and what changes still need to be made to ensure everyone who comes to UW feels like they belong.
What did the university do after the 2021 survey?
In 2021, UW–Madison fielded the second student-wide campus climate survey. Since then, the Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement (DDEEA) has produced the Campus Climate Progress Reports every fall and spring semester detailing the university’s efforts to improve campus climate in response to the findings of that second survey. Additionally in 2022, the university appointed a Student Campus Climate Survey Task Force comprised of students, faculty, and staff to review the results of the survey and develop recommendations to address its finding. We expect to do this again in 2025 after the results come in from the 2024 survey.
