Curly Velasquez — an actor, content creator and artist who celebrates all things Latinx and beautiful — will provide the UW–Madison Latinx Heritage Month keynote address on Oct. 8.
Velasquez began his career in fashion working for celebrity photographer David LaChapelle, and design icon Jeremy Scott before starting his own line. By age 25, he was celebrated as one of the “IT” designers in LA by H&M and directed a music video for Interscope records.
He produces and appears in BuzzFeed’s Latinx division: Pero Like. You can see him on the Starz’s show “Vida” (Seasons 2 and 3) and the Netflix documentary “Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado.”
The keynote event is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Multicultural Student Center Lounge in the Red Gym and also streamed online from 6 to 7:30 p.m. CDT on Oct. 8.
