UW Transnational Experiences of African Americans in Denmark – Deadline for application 2/2/2018
UW Transnational Experiences of African Americans in Denmark will be led by Professor Ethelene Whitmire in Summer 2018. This program examines the African American experience in Denmark, and will satisfy UW’s Ethnic Studies General Education Requirement. The Danish Institute for Study Abroad will be providing on-site logistics. On this program, students will compare and contrast the experiences of African Americans in these European nations and answer the questions: Why did African Americans go to Denmark? and What were their experiences while there? The program will be a mix of classroom lectures, group discussions, and experiences that will allow students to better get to know your studies firsthand.
Students can choose to receive 3 credits in the following class: Afro-American Studies/History 271
The program duration will be early July through late July, is open to all UW-Madison degree seeking students with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, in good academic and disciplinary standing, and it has no language pre-requisite. UW Hmong Studies in Thailand – more information coming soon about application deadlines
The UW Hmong Studies in Thailand program, co-led by UW-Madison Professor Ian Baird and UMN Professor Mai Na Lee, focuses on the history, culture, and the livelihoods of Hmong people through studying several Hmong communities in northern Thailand. This is a 4-week summer program slated for June 2018. Open to all students. Students can choose to receive 4 credits in any one of the following options:
- Anthropology 455: Study Abroad in Cultural Anthropology
- Geography 475: Special Topics
- History 273: Study Abroad – Non-Western History
- Languages & Cultures of Asia 300: Special Topics
