November 20 is National Parental Involvement Day

Project Appleseed’s 19th annual celebration will be held on the third Thursday in November, Nov. 20, 2014. National Parent Involvement Day provides a yearly opportunity for schools and families to honor and highlight the powerful contributions parents and caregivers provide at school and home to support student success. However, parental involvement shouldn’t be confined to just one day – it should be emphasized all year long.

Attachment 1Schools are encouraged to host a new event on – or move an existing event to – National Parent Involvement Day Thursday, Nov. 20th, to honor the powerful contributions that parents and caregivers make to support the success of students. For some examples of activities go to:  www.projectappleseed.org.

Locally, you can get your newly designed T-shirt and wear it with pride the week of Nov. 17-21, 2014, through ALLPARENTSONDECK to demonstrate your pride and that you are actively involved in students’ academic journey, said the organization’s president Sharon Edwards-Billings. And most importantly , spread the word to other involved parents.

“We want to know who they are and also encourage them to demonstrate their pride as INVOLVED PARENTS,”  she said.  Highlight the value of parental involvement in your schools and let us know about your efforts!
