Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk, Sept. 24, Downtown Madison

Please join the 100 Black Men of Madison for our fourth annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Walk. Our goal is to raise awareness about prostate cancer and encourage men to be screened through this fun, healthy, family-oriented event.

Prostate cancer forms in tissues of the prostate (a gland in the male reproductive system found below the bladder and in front of the rectum). Prostate cancer usually occurs in older men.

The National Cancer Institute reports that there have been an estimated 233,000 new cases and 29,480 deaths from prostate cancer in the United States so far this year.  According to the Center for Disease Control, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men in the United States.  African American men have higher rates of getting and dying from the disease, although it is still unclear why.
