Planning for Career Success as Staff of Color

The MSC is hosting The Symposium: Race & Politics in Higher Education, and one of the featured speakers is Dr. Rebecca Gutierrez-Keeton, who will be leading a talk on career planning for staff of color in higher education. The Symposium as a whole is at capacity, but this session does have room for about 30 more people. I wanted to informally invite other staff of color to join us for this talk/discussion about career success and how race might influence it. The event will be on Friday, March 13 at 1:40 p.m. in Pyle 226.

Planning for Career Success as Staff of Color, will be led by Dr. Rebecca Gutierrez-Keeton, Vice President for Student Affairs at California State Polytechnic University. Dr. Rebecca Guitierrez Keeton has worked in higher education since 1986 and her research interests and publications involve diversity in higher education, multiple identity development, social justice, transition to college programs, women in student affairs, student perceptions of leadership, and Latina leadership.  She is currently the Vice President of Student Affairs at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Rebecca previously served as the Dean of Students for Semester at Sea, and her experience in student affairs extends from University Housing to Judicial Affairs to  Cultural Centers.

There will also be an informal social at Roast (558 State St.) after The Symposium, around 4:45 p.m. At our last faculty/staff of color gathering people expressed a desire to have more opportunities for socializing. Please join and forward this along to others who might be interested.
