Mentors and panelists needed for New Graduate Student Welcome on August 28

The Graduate School is looking for seasoned graduate students to share their advice and experience with incoming students at the 2019 New Graduate Student Welcome. If you’re available to speak on a grad student panel on Wednesday, Aug. 28, we’d greatly appreciate your help in welcoming new students to the UW community. Just follow this link to sign up!

The New Graduate Student Welcome includes a resource fair, information about important campus offices, and the panels of grad students that you would participate in. The grad student panels are a chance for incoming students to hear from experienced grad students on topics such as work/life balance, maintaining relationships with faculty, finding campus and community resources, living in Madison, and many others.

If you participate, you’ll get a free Graduate School t-shirt, as well as free food!

Here are some more details about the grad student panels:

  • There are three concurrent panels. One is for doctoral students in the Biological or Physical Sciences. Another is for doctoral students in the Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences. The third is for students pursuing a terminal master’s degree, whether research or practicum.
  • The panels take place on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 1:15 – 2:15 pm at Union South.
  • All panelists are asked to arrive at Union South at 12:45 pm. We will meet in Varsity Hall III to give a brief pre-panel pep talk and distribute your free t-shirts!
  • After the panels, there is a Meet & Greet Reception for new graduate students. If you are available, we’d love for you to stick around to chat with incoming students in your division and enjoy the food and refreshments.

Thank you in advance for your help! Feel free to contact gspd@grad.wisc.edu with any questions or concerns.
