Institutional Statement on Commitment to Diversity

The Faculty Senate Monday night became the first campus shared governance group to endorse a proposed institutional statement on our commitment to diversity.
The statement, which has been vetted by the campus’s shared governance units, including representatives from the USC (University Staff Committee), ASC (Academic Staff Committee), the CDCC (Campus Diversity and Climate Committee), EDCs (Equity and Diversity Chairs) and senior leadership, will be presented for formal endorsement by these groups and other key stakeholders like ASM (Associated Students of Madison) throughout the Fall semester.

“Through the lens of organizational change management, this statement is a formal affirmation of our mutual commitment to shared goals, a common intent, and desired outcomes,” said Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer Patrick Sims. “It’s a summary statement of our commitment to completing the work needed to reach the long-term results defined in the Diversity Framework. Having an overarching statement like this points us in the same direction and reminds us of why we do what we do.”
