2019 WCATY Precollege Credit UW-Madison
2019 WCATY Precollege Credit UW-Madison

The Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth (WCATY) is announcing the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP), a new For-Credit Precollege opportunity that combines a university credit-based course with three weeks of residential programming on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus. Participants will take one college 3 credit course and live on campus.  The opportunity is for high school juniors and seniors who are ready to explore the next level of academic challenge.

This opportunity for academically advanced students in Grades 10-12 combines three-week residential experience as part of Accelerated Learning Program (ALP, WCATY) and enrollment in three college credits course offered through the UW-Madison Department of Philosophy June 30-July 20, 2019. You can find more information about this program in the flyer, as well on the following website https://wcaty.wisc.edu/alp/alp-for-credit/.

ALP will have up to five need-based scholarships for this new credit-based option. Please direct any interested students to our website so that they can learn more and take advantage of this opportunity.  Additionally, students may consider applying for ALP non-credit courses and be considered for financial aid through April 30, 2019.

ALP is for high school students and is designed for deeper exploration of a concentrated topic. To be considered for admission, students must demonstrate outstanding academic ability and motivation to engage in in-depth study of one subject. Students have the opportunity to work with their school to receive high school credit for each course and will be graded in accordance with that plan. Courses are offered at two levels, introductory and advanced. Eligibility for ALP will be demonstrated in the same ways as other WCATY  programs that are dedicated to supporting students who are searching for an additional level of challenge. WCATY provides students with a unique learning experiences that will appeal to their curiosity and desire to learn while supporting their growth outside of the classroom. New students are encouraged to submit at least one supporting document in addition to the grade report and personal statement in order to give the admissions team a stronger idea of academic achievement and motivation.

Participants in the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) will share your residential camp experiences with students from across Wisconsin, the nation, and the world and become part of the bigger ALP community.

By enrolling in a precollege for-credit course, participants will become a special non-degree-seeking student at UW–Madison. Please note that as a Special student, participants will be establishing a permanent UW–Madison record, and the grade(s) earned will appear on a UW–Madison transcript. Participants will be required to submit their UW–Madison transcript to any college they apply to in the future.
