Monday is Indigenous Peoples Day in Wisconsin

MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) It’s Indigenous Peoples Day in Wisconsin.

Last year Governor Tony Evers declared the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day in Wisconsin. The day is federally recognized as Columbus Day, and Evers order didn’t change that, but Wisconsin and nine other states have chosen to celebrate native peoples instead.

There are eleven federally-recognized Native American Indian tribes in Wisconsin.
